{the hidden baby journals} week 12

May 12, 2010

We had our second doctor's appointment last week and got to see an ultrasound of our little bean. So much has happened in five weeks! Baby has gone from bean-status to looking like a real little human, complete with fingers and toes! Jason did quite well at the ultrasound, only getting white in the face a few times (he does NOT do well at doctor's offices). Our little one was putting on quite the show - somersaulting, kicking, and waving his little arms and legs. The heartbeat was going strong at 152 beats per minute. I tried to catch a glimpse of girl or boy parts, but the tech said that this early on they all look the same. I'll just have to be patient for the next 8 weeks!

I'm a few short days away from the second trimester! I can't believe how fast everything is going. It'll be November before I know it.

Now, as the proud mama I am, I'd like to introduce you to our beautiful son/daughter:

Well, our first visit to the doctor went well. We met our obstetrician, who I absolutely love. He's a down-to-earth guy, explained everything that's happening to the baby and to me. We had our very first ultrasound and found out that our due date is officially November 23, 2010. Little bean really did look like a little bean, though you could see the slight flicker of the heart beating, which was such a miracle to see! Bean is the size of a blueberry this week - it's hard to believe that the baby goes from the size of a poppyseed to a blueberry in a matter of a few weeks. Truly amazing!

Morning sickness hasn't been too bad. I've been feeling incredibly tired and a little nauseous some days, but most of the time I feel just fine! I haven't told anyone at work yet, or any friends - but I'm looking forward to doing so after our next doctor's appointment in five weeks.

How far along? 7 weeks
Total weight gain/loss: up 1 pound!
Maternity clothes? None yet, but I am having to do the rubber-band trick with my jeans. They still fit, but it's much more comfortable to leave them unbuttoned.
Stretch marks? No
Sleep: I still can’t get enough.
Movement: None yet.
Food cravings: Cereal
Gender: Let's still go with boy.
Labor Signs: None
Belly Button in or out? In
What I am looking forward to: Our next ultrasound and telling all our friends!

{the hidden baby journals} week 6

March 24, 2010Well, it's been an exciting two weeks since we found out about the little bean! As fun as it may be to have a secret between the two of us, we could not wait to share the news with our parents. Since my parents are in Wisconsin, I decided to be a little sly. Nothing like getting a baby onesie in the mail to break the news!

I packaged everything in bubble envelopes and shipped them off - no note, no nothing. And since I have two sisters - lucky me I found a onesie bib deal! (Hey, I'm about to have a baby - now is not the time to be spending money on frivolous onesies!) Kayla got the bib.

Since Jason's parents are local, we decided to have them over for dinner. I couldn't wait to spill the beans, but Jason was nervous. Finally, as we were doing dishes, he said that I could tell them. I ran to the bedroom to get the onesies and told everyone I had a present for them. I handed them out one by one. Certainly not the dessert everyone was expecting!

Needless to say, parents and soon to be aunties and uncle were over the moon excited. We're keeping it a secret until our next doctor's appointment where we'll get to hear the heartbeat!

{the hidden baby journals} week 5

March 17, 2010
Baby is the size of an apple seed this week and looks kind of like a tadpole. The big news for the bean this week is he's starting to form major organs like the heart, kidney, liver and stomach! His nervous, circulatory and digestive systems are also starting to form.

How far along? 5 weeks
Total weight gain/loss: none
Maternity clothes? None yet, though my bloat seems to be stretching out my pants buttons.
Stretch marks? No
Sleep: I still can’t get enough of it. Every day I come home from work and take a nap, and then by 8:00, I'm ready for bed.
Movement: NONE, of course.
Food cravings: Qdoba - nachos and burritos. Can't get enough of that spicy food!
Gender: I think it's a boy. No good reason why.
Labor Signs: None
Belly Button in or out? In
What I miss: Having a glass of wine on the weekends.
What I am looking forward to: Our first ultrasound and telling our parents!

Preggo Test

I'm pregnant! I'm freaking out just a little, but I'm so happy, so excited and cannot wait to share this journey with all of you.

Right now, baby is the size of a poppyseed, according to T
he Bump. So tiny! Cannot believe that there is a little human growing inside of me.

Jason and I have always wanted children and decided that no time would ever be the right time. So instead of worrying about when we would start trying and getting anxious and worried about when it would happen (or not happen), we decided to just see what happens. We left it up to God and didn't worry about when the perfect time would be.

After being a week late, and hearing about babies left and right through Facebook, blogs, etc, I stopped at Wal-greens on the way home to buy a HPT. I came home and said, "Look what I got!" Jason said "What the heck is that?!?" I took the test, feeling pretty good, and within seconds my heart started to pound. All I could think was, what if this thing is positive? Our lives were two minutes away from changing dramatically.

Before I had time to think, I saw a faint pink line start to appear. I ran to the living room to show Jason. He looked at it and said, "Let me read those instructions." Then he spent the next five minutes comparing the test to the photos in the instruction booklet. He responded with, "Well wife, it looks like we're having a baby!"

I made a doctor appointment for the following day to confirm. I took another test there and it was still faint with them, so they had to take a blood test. The next morning they called with the results - positive!
